Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) | Directed by Woody Allen

Grade: A

Thoughts: Superb Woody Allen film. Funny and heart wrenching. The cast is terrific, especially Oscar-winner Dianne Wiest. Allen is in full form here. While not exactly the same kind of comedy vs. drama as Crimes and Misdemeanors, those two elements do contrast one another throughout the film. It’s a beautiful, hilarious, and touching film.

Radio Days (1987) | Directed by Woody Allen

Grade: A-

Thoughts: A truly delightful and lovely film. Treats nostalgia with the same kind of woebegone deftness and humor as Midnight in Paris. Very amusing and just fun to watch. Must be Allen’s Amarcord.

Broadway Danny Rose (1984) | Directed by Woody Allen

Grade: B+

Thoughts: Amusing, if imperfect, Allen venture. Perhaps the the most winning aspect of the film is that both Allen and Farrow play against their type, kind of. A lot of fun.

The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985) | Directed by Woody Allen

Grade: A

Thoughts: ALL I WANT IS FOR A MOVIE CHARACTER TO JUMP OFF THE SCREEN SO WE CAN FALL IN LOVE WITH EACH OTHER, IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?!

September (1987) | Directed by Woody Allen

Grade: B-

Thoughts: Another of Allen’s domestic dramas reminiscent of his Swedish auteur idol, but this one isn’t as potent. It’s kind of dull and whiny. Regardless, great cast, especially Wieste and Stritch.
