The Last Picture Show (1971) | Directed by Peter Bogdonavich

Grade: A

Thoughts: In Peter Bogdonavich’s masterpiece, the people are as dusty and dilapidated as the town, and the times. Just as the Korean War is beginning, a small Texas town feels the effects of it, and the harsh consequences (both of the Korean War and of Vietnam) are manifested as teen angst through three teens. Jeff Bridges, Cybil Shepard, and Cloris Leachman give incredible performances. The sexuality displayed on screen is unprecedented. Gorgeously photographed, and oozing with realism in every frame and every line of dialogue.
